Got a call about an insurance quote for my 2008 Toyota Matrix today. It was a pretty good quote, but I don't have a Toyota Matrix nor have I ever wanted a Toyota Matrix or insurance for one. Haven't car shopped or insurance shopped in years. It doesn't seem like identity theft, but the insurance company had a lead with my name, old address, phone and e-mail. Maybe I submitted a form for information a long long time ago and it just surfaced? Anyone have thoughts on this?
It was a pretty decent rate...

Is it possible the new resident at your old place has an '08 Matrix?

No, my parents still live there. I parked my 1982 Toyota Tercel SR5 there, but hard to mistake that for a Matrix. And nobody is trying to get insurance for it.

You need to enter the Matrix :p

That stuff happens to me all the time. I order pretty much every car brochure/sales packet/whatever and my name ends up on a ton of lists. I get at least 20 'extend the warranty' letters, insurance quotes, trade-in offer, etc. for cars I don't own every week.

It could have been a cold-call, or some time ago you compared insurance quotes online for some reason.

I've received junk mail style things before. I don't subscribe to hardly anything, but this is distinctly different than spam or unsolicited anything that I normally see. They don't usually call me and already have all my information.

That's what I figured, but usually cold-calls don't call and e-mail me a detailed insurance quote for a car I don't have. The lady on the phone seemed confused too. Oh well.

If it was me....I'd call all 3 credit bureaus and let them know about it-just to be on the safe side.
